Mark Hamill hints at early October for new Star Wars: The Last Jedi trailer

Spread the word!

We’ve been asking for a new Star Wars: The Last Jedi trailer since we saw the first one at Star Wars Celebration in April. Thanks to a new tweet from Mark Hamill, we may finally have a date for when we can expect to see the film’s second trailer.

When asked by a fan when the next trailer for The Last Jedi would be available, Hamill cheekily suggested that he wasn’t sure, but proposed tuning into Monday Night Football on Oct. 9. The screenshot below was captured by Digital Spy.

Since responding last night, Hamill has deleted the tweet. When he was asked about it again this morning, Hamill backtracked his statement.

Still, Oct. 9 makes sense for a new Star Wars: The Last Jedi trailer. Before Star Wars: The Force Awakens, a new trailer was released around the same time, also during a football game. Disney owns ABC and ESPN, two major networks for sports coverage, and using Star Wars as a way to boost ratings during a specific game isn’t unusual for the company. It’s the same reason Disney uses Jimmy Kimmel Live! on ABC to debut trailers for new Marvel Studios movies.

Despite Hamill’s deleted tweet, there’s no reason to believe that a new — and final — trailer for The Last Jedi won’t arrive on Oct. 9. Polygon has reached out to Lucasfilm for confirmation.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi will be released on Dec. 15.
