After months and months and more months of waiting, Nintendo will unveil our first look at Animal Crossing for smartphones later this week. A Nintendo Direct presentation centered on the previously announced mobile game will stream at 12 p.m. Japan time this Wednesday, Oct. 25 — or 11 p.m. EST on Tuesday, Oct. 24, the evening before.
Nintendo confirmed that the Nintendo Direct will stream worldwide. Animal Crossing is a franchise that transcends the language barrier, at least when it comes to our excitement for it — so you bet we would be watching this presentation either way.
First announced in spring 2016, Animal Crossing for mobile was set to be one of the first smartphone applications published by Nintendo. The release of Super Mario Run led to Nintendo rejiggering its mobile rollout plans. The company hasn’t put out a new game for iOS or Android since Fire Emblem Heroes in February.
All Nintendo has to say is “Animal Crossing” and “mobile,” though, and we’ll probably be there for it. (Don’t expect any Animal Crossing on Nintendo Switch news, by the way.) Check back in with us late Tuesday night for the reveal.
Update: Nintendo confirmed that the Animal Crossing mobile direct will stream worldwide. It will run 15 minutes long and begin at 11 p.m. ET Oct. 24. The story above has been updated to reflect this.
