Ben Affleck calls Henry Cavill’s Superman mustache ‘full-on porn mustache’

Spread the word!

Gotham’s Dark Knight had a few choice words for the extravagant mustache Clark Kent was spotting on the set of Justice League.

Ben Affleck, who will play Batman for the second time in Justice League following his debut in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, told Empire Magazine that when co-star Henry Cavill showed up to film reshoots, he looked like a 1970s adult film star.

“It was a full-on porn-star moustache,” Affleck said. “He looked like a porn star from the ’70s, just with a better body. It’s a different twist [on Superman].”

Cavill first gained attention for the mustache after a Variety story from July confirmed that he would have to film his scenes as Superman with a hairy upper lip because of scheduling conflicts. While reshoots were happening, Cavill was also in the middle of filming Mission Impossible 6. His soup strainer couldn’t have been shaved off, leading to Cavill filming his parts with the facial hair that a post-production crew would have to remove after.

People immediately started Photoshopping Cavill with a mustache, with one fan of the ‘70s aesthetic superhero editing parts of Batman v Superman to reimagine Cavill’s character with a lip toupée.

Cavill addressed the facial fur discussion himself two days later on Instagram, posting a photo from the set of Mission Impossible 6 and joking around about the hot topic.

Dear followers, it is time to finally set the record straight in this moustache fiasco. Pictured above, is not a set on MI6 but is in fact the latest in a series of weapons being designed by Warner Bros and Paramount Studios to combat the entity known as “Henry Cavill’s Moustache”. There has been no discussion over whether to shave or not to shave for the JL reshoots, simply a relentless campaign to put an end to the seemingly inexorable conquest of this despotic ‘stache. It is not a question of IF I should shave – it is a question of how can we possibly be victorious against such a beast without bringing our own doom raining down upon us.

While Cavill’s Superman won’t be rocking a crumb catcher in Justice League, there’s a chance that his scenes where he sported the push broom may be included as bonus material once the movie is released on video.

Reshoots for the film were reportedly ordered to interject some more humor into the movie. Whedon was brought on board to help finish the project after director Zack Snyder had to step down following the death of his daughter earlier this year. Snyder is still credited as the director at this time. Whedon will not be getting a co-director credit but will receive an official credit as co-writer.

Justice League will be released on Nov. 17.
