20th Century Fox is working on a feature-length Bob’s Burgers movie set to be released in theaters in 2020.
In a press release sent out by the studio today, show creator Loren Bouchard said he was aware of the pressure the team was under with the movie. Fans of the series, which has been on the air since January 2011, have made it clear what they’d like to see in a feature-length movie.
“We also know it has to fill every inch of the screen with the colors and the sounds and the ever so slightly greasy texture of the world of Bob’s — but most of all it has to take our characters on an epic adventure,” Bouchard said. “In other words, it has to be the best movie ever made. But no pressure, right?!”
Fox’s announcement comes just one month after Bob’s Burgers won the Emmy for “Best Animated Series.” In its time on Fox, Bob’s Burgers has earned attention for a number of its episodes and gimmicks, including a brief tie-in with FX’s Archer (H. Jon Benjamin voices both Bob and Archer on each respective series). In 2014, Bob’s Burger’s Live tour, a live musical comedy show that stars the cast and is run by Bouchard, began touring around the United States.
Fox has confirmed the Bob’s Burgers movie will be released on July 17, 2020. A director has yet to be attached to the project.
