Flashy new God of War trailer announces an April 20 release date on PS4

Spread the word!

Kratos’ next adventure, the decidedly different take on the God of War franchise, is coming to PlayStation 4 on April 20, Sony announced today.

Sony Interactive Entertainment and God of War creative director Cory Barlog confirmed the game’s release date alongside a new narrative-focused trailer. In that trailer, posted above, we get a preview of the story of Kratos and his son Atreus as they embark on a new adventure set in the world of Norse myth. Here’s how Sony describes that new father-son adventure:

Living as a man outside the shadow of the gods, Kratos must adapt to unfamiliar lands, unexpected threats, and a second chance at being a father. Together with his son Atreus, the pair will venture into the brutal Norse wilds and fight to fulfill a deeply personal quest.

On the PlayStation Blog, Cory Barlog said God of War’s release date is “my favorite release day of my entire career. If I live to be 100, I do not think I will be able to top this release day.” That’s despite the PlayStation 4 exclusive going up against another major product launch, Nintendo’s new line of cardboard toy accessories for the Switch, Nintendo Labo.

Also on the PlayStation Blog, Barlog breaks down the various editions and pre-order incentives for God of War. There’s a digital deluxe edition for $69.99, which includes the game, digital art books and other in-game goods; a collector’s edition for $129.99 that also includes a 9-inch statue of Kratos and Atreus, a cloth map and a SteelBook case; and the Stone Mason edition, which costs $149.99 and includes even more physical goods, like a keychain and Stone Mason Ring.

Now if someone can please help make some jokes about the weed number in the comments and find a way to elegantly combine “Blades of Chaos” with “4/20 blaze it,” or some other variation, I’d appreciate it.
