Netflix’s Jurassic World animated series drops a group of teens into dino disaster

Spread the word!

Jurassic Park is expanding — or evolving? — with an animated series. DreamWorks Animation has partnered with Netflix with Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous.

The show will follow a group of six teenagers who trek to Isla Nublar for an adventure camp, but — as happens in literally every Jurassic Park/World movie — the dinosaurs break out, wreak havoc and destruction, and the teens must escape. As Netflix puts it, they’ll have to go from “strangers to friends to family if they’re going to survive.”

The teaser doesn’t show the plucky teen heroes, but we do get an ominous glimpse of the dinosaur threat. Camp Cretaceous will take place canonically alongside the Jurassic World movies, which just creates more questions about who thought a summer camp on a tropical island full of megafauna was a good idea.

Scott Kreamer (Pinky Malinky) and Lane Lueras (Kung Fu Panda: The Paws of Destiny) will serve as showrunners and executive producers of the series, with Steven Spielberg, Frank Marshall, and Colin Trevorrow also executive producing. The show will hit Netflix in 2020, ahead of the third installment of the Jurassic World franchise in the summer of 2021.
