Picross S for Nintendo Switch coming next week

Spread the word!

Jupiter Corporation, the developer behind the much-loved Picross series, has announced Picross S for the Nintendo Switch. What’s more, you won’t have to wait long. Picross S will be available on the Switch eShop on Sept. 28 (that’s next week!) for $8.

If you’re not familiar with the language of Picross, here’s Wikipedia’s explanation:

Nonograms, also known as Hanjie, Picross or Griddlers, are picture logic puzzles in which cells in a grid must be colored or left blank according to numbers at the side of the grid to reveal a hidden picture. In this puzzle type, the numbers are a form of discrete tomography that measures how many unbroken lines of filled-in squares there are in any given row or column. For example, a clue of “4 8 3” would mean there are sets of four, eight, and three filled squares, in that order, with at least one blank square between successive groups.

Here’s a non-video game explainer video, if you’re still not sure:

Jupiter released seven games in the Picross e series on 3DS, starting in 2011, but has has been making Picross games going back to the Game Boy, with Mario’s Picross and Picross 2. While most of Jupiter’s Picross titles are for handheld platforms, excepting the Super Nintendo’s Mario’s Super Picross, Picross S is both a handheld and home console title thanks to the Switch’s unique hardware.

Picross S will include 300 puzzles, and a two-player mode — also well suited for the Switch — according to Eurogamer.
